The purpose of research is to learn about the application of the interpretive theory in consecutive interpreting, including the role of cognitive complements(Seleskovitch 2002,78),the method of event memory(Seleskovitch 2002,240),and the principle of correspondence and equivalence in re-expression(Seleskovitch 2002.262-263).In terms of analytical approach, collecting the recording of class and transferring it into a word document. Then, analyzing students' recording and the professor's teaching methods based on the three-step strategy of the interpretive theory(Seleskovitch,2002),i.e.understanding the source language-deverbalization-re-expression.The data of thesis come from a consecutive interpreting class of the French Language and Culture Department,Beijing Foreign Studies University. The professor of the class is Professor Shao Wei,PhD in translation studies of Ecole Superieure d'Interpretes et de Traducteurs(ESNT)and member of Association Internationale d'Interpretes de Conference(AIIC).By analyzing the recording of 10 representative students and relating it to my own practice,I have concluded that:First, cognitive complements are essential to technical conferences and interpreting programs.Second, event memory is the key to processing complex information.Third, correspondence in re-expression is based on cognitive complements of terms, while equivalence plays an important role in processing implicit information and improving the flexibility of re-expression.
