Procrastination,a prevalent problematic behavior, has always been the focus of the public concern. It can cause distress for a large number of individuals, not only for diminishing work efficiency, but also for damaging one's well-being.Nowadays,researchers from home and abroad have done a lot about the causes and factors of procrastination. However, the intervention study is still in its infancy with effective and systematic project being undiscovered.Nevertheless, prior studies have found the negative correlation between physical exercise and procrastination, which provide possible direction for procrastination intervention. It is well-known that doing exercise can facilitate people's mental health and work performance. But the effectiveness of physical activities for fighting procrastination and the mechanism between them are waiting to be further explored.Physical activity has been shown to promote work engagement through the lens of resources. It is believed that proactive behavior can be boosted by regular exercise via improved personal resources, like self-control.Based on previous studies,we discuss the causes and intervention of procrastination under guidance of Conservation of Resource Theory(COR Theory). To investigate whether regular exercise can exert significant effects on procrastination by cultivating personal resources,cross-sectional study and longitudinal study were both involved in our research. In the first part,306 female college students were recruited in a cross-sectional study. Results show that 'physical exercise can negatively predict procrastination(B=-0.39,p<0.001).Then,in the second part,45 participants in the experimental group are arranged to take part in a fit aerobics training program for one month, while the control group did not receive any intervention. There are three test points in this study, which include pretest,post-test and the middle test.SPSS was used to do independent-sample T test and pare-sample T test. Results showed that the score of procrastination of experimental group in the post-test were significantly declined when compared with pretest score(/=11.70,p<0.001),while the score of control group did not show that effect.Self-control and time management disposition of experimental group in the post-test were significantly increased(t=-11.41,p<0.001;t=-11.17,p<0.001)and score of anti-acceptance and aversion to task were significantly decreased(t=16.01,p<0.001;t=7.02,p<0.001),when compared with pretest score, while the score of control group did not show that effect.Then,Mplus7 was used to build multilevel model. Results show that regular exercise can reduce procrastination through the mediating effects of self-control and time management disposition(?indirect?-.12,p<0.001,95%CI[-.03,-.01]).The main conclusions are as follows:1.Physical exercise is negatively related to procrastination and can predict procrastination significantly.2.The score of self-control and time management disposition and acceptance of experimental group in the post-test were significantly increased, and score of aversion to task and procrastination were significantly decreased when compared with pretest score, while the score of control group did not show that effect.3.Regular exercise can reduce procrastination through the mediating effects of self-control and time management disposition.4.Regular exercise can't reduce procrastination through the mediating effects of acceptance and aversion to task.In conclusion, this study shows that regular exercise can exert a positive effect on individual's personal resources, which represents an interpretation of the mechanism underlying the association between physical activities and procrastination.
