A Report On The Translation Of The Wrong Grave From The Perspective Of Communicative Translation

At present,modern and contemporary short stories are widely welcomed by readers from all over the world.Pretty Monster is a collection of short stories by popular American writer Kelly Link.The translator selected a complete story The Wrong Grave as The object of translation and research in this novels collection.This work has distinctive features in language,narration and structure.If the translator adopts the simple literal translation principle,these features cannot be reproduced in a high quality in the translation,which will lead to the loss of literariness and readability of the translation.Therefore,the translator should use more flexible translation strategies in the translation.In addition,this work is aimed at target language readers after translation,so the translator pays more attention to target language readers in translation,and strives to make the translated novel bring the same aesthetic experience and reading experience to target language readers as the source language readers.Based on the characteristics of the original text language and the purpose of translation,the translator selects Peter Newmark's communicative translation theory as the guide for text translation.First of all,communicative translation is not limited to the language and structure of the source text,and brings together the advantages of domestication,free translation and flexible translation,providing a method for the translator to reproduce the characteristics of the source text.Secondly,communicative translation focuses on the target language readers,and is committed to making the effect of the target text on the target language readers almost equal to the effect of the original text on the source language readers,which is the translation goal the author pursues in translation process.The translator divides the translation problems involved in this report into thefollowing four levels: culture-loaded words,special sentences,key paragraphs,and textual coherence.In translation,the translator strives for the idiomatic diction,graceful sentence construction,fluent paragraph and consistency of the whole text,so that the processed translation has the readability and literariness.In the case analysis,the translator gives the results of semantic translation,which is in contrast with the translation from the perspective of communicative translation,highlighting the purpose and advantages of the translation generated from the perspective of communicative translation.In addition,in the process of translation,the translator reconstructs the novel to a certain extent and re-creates the novel based on proper understanding.In other words,it is necessary to go back to the perspective of literary creation to translate the original text,analyze the writing ideas and skills of the original author,and find the corresponding writing habits of target language to imitate.The translator not only pursues the authenticity and smoothness of the translation,but also hopes that the re-creation form in the translation can make the readers of the target language feel the literary charm of the novel when they read it.
