| This is a report on English-Chinese translation of English academic novel Eating People Is Wrong, which is written by an English novelist Malcolm Bradbury. The novel mainly describes the daily life that takes place with the protagonist Professor Treece in the school with various teachers and students. There are four parts in this report, including translation task description, translation process description, translation case analysis and translation practice conclusion. The third part is the central part of the report, which includes translation difficulties and solutions.Under the guidance of Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence translation theory, this report will mainly analyze three aspects: translation methods of elliptical sentence, attributive sentence and passive voice sentence. The main translation methods discussed in the third part are amplification, omission, inversion, division, turning passive voice into the active voice and changing into non-subject sentence. In the process of translation,I realized that Eugene Nida’s principle is theoretical and instructive to translate this novel. In order to become a qualified translator,it was necessary to put the effort and make a lot of translation activities. It hopes that this practice report can provide some reference for literary translators. |
