Science popularization education is an important way to enhance the public's scientific and technological literacy and cultivate innovative consciousness.Furthermore,it is the need of public to adapt to the development of modem social science and technology and improve the quality of life.In recent years,with the rapid development of science popularization in China,science and technology museum has ruade remarkable progress.Various provinces and cities across the country are building science and technology museums with different sizes and types.As a public welfare science education institution serving the society,science and technology museum attracts plenty of domestic visitors,as well as foreigners.The bilingual texts in science and technology museum not only accelerate the bilingual education of teenagers,but also promote Chinese culture to the world.Therefore,the translation of science and technology museum text is going to play a major role.This report is based on a Chinese-English translation practice.The source text is Exhibit Arrangement Copywritng Outline of Huaihua Science and Technology Museum.The author determines that the source text belongs to informative text by analyzing the features of the text.The source text is rich in content,which involves fund of knowledge in many fields such as culture and technology.Therefore,the biggest difficulty encountered by the author in the translation process is how to deal with the relationship between the source text and the target text,and fully consider the response of the target language readers to make them understand the source text as much as possible.In the translation practice,Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory is applied as a theoretical guidance from lexical level,syntactic level,and discourse level.Case studies have shown that in order to accurately express the intent and content of the source text to the target language readers,translators must be flexible in choosing the most appropriate translation methods and translation techniques possible.It is concluded that at the lexical level,for the translation of specific terms,cultural words and verbs with Chinese characteristics,translation methods such as literal translation,free translation and translation techniques such as nominalization can be used.At the syntactic level,it is necessary to correctly analyze the logic in the meaning of the imperative sentences,non-subject sentences on the basis of the different characters of the two languages in syntax that the English language focuses on form while the Chinese language on meaning.The translation methods and techniques such as literal translation,subject supplementary and the passive sentence transformation are adopted to achieve syntactic equivalence.At the discourse level,attention should be paid to the text style and the articulation techniques between paragraphs.Linkage techniques such as conjunction supplement can be used to achieve functional equivalence at the discourse level.Under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory,the English translation of.the science and technology museum can be more consistent with the original text,so as to accurately express the content and style of the original text.
