This is an English-Chinese translation report on The Climate Change Crisis-Solutions and Adaption for a Planet in Peril written by Ross Michael Pink,a professor at the University of Technology in Quinlan,Canada,and published in January,2018 by Palgrave Macmillan.The translator has been authorizd and she selects Chapters 2-3 as source text of this translation project after confirming with the publishing house that there is no Chinese version of this book.This book explores how the international community will respond to the unfolding humanitarian crisis triggered by climate change.The Climate Change Crisis considers climate change to be the greatest threat to human development in the 21st century and addresses climate change and its impact as a major threat for countries around the world.The book proposes an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the challenges that climate change poses to health and development.The informative book covers a wide range of subjects,including human rights,public policy,international relations,national refugee policy and migration research.In the book,the author introduces the climate crisis and the innovation and adaption strategies of countries around the world through interviews and natural disasters,trying to convey the actual situation of climate change to readers,with the focus on transmitting information.As such,the translator classifies the book as informative text.Information-based text translation requires translators to accurately convey the original information in straightforward language.Therefore,this material will be translated under the guidance of communicative translation theory based on the text type.Newmark's emphasis on communicative translation is to convey information according to the language,culture and pragmatics of the target language,rather than faithfully copying the original text;This translation practice report is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction,which mainly presents the background,purpose and significance of the project.The second part is an introduction to the translation source text,including the author,the source text content and the linguistic features of the source text.The third part is the description of the translation process,including the preparation of pre-translation texts,tools and theories,the unification and addition of terminology in translation and the solution of technical problems,post-translation editing and review and translation format modification.The fourth part focuses on the application of Newmark's communicative translation theory in translation,namely the translation techniques that the translator adopted in translation under the guidance of communicative translation theory.The fifth part mainly summarizes the experience and problems to be solved in this translation practice.
