This English-Chinese translation project selects its source text from the book Communicating Climate Change: A Guide for Educators,which was co-written by Anne K.Armstrong,Marianne E.Krasny and Jonathan P.Schuldt from Cornell University.Jointly published by Cornell University Press and Comstock Press in 2018,the book explores the impact of climate change on global human activities and development as well as the important role environmental education plays in climate change communication.The book suggests environmental educators to carry out innovative education projects by providing more people with climate knowledge and promoting effective actions on climate change.At present,there is no published Chinese version of this book,and its translation into Chinese would be significant to educators and research workers,learners and policy makers who are committed to environmental protection.This project selects the Introduction and Part One of the book for translation practice,with a total of about 14000 English words being translated into Chinese.According to Peter Newmark's translation typology,the source text is mainly of informative function.Informative texts pay attention to the authenticity of the content,which should be followed in translation.More attention should be paid to the authenticity and reliability of information transmission and the accuracy of the content.At the same time,the text is loaded with many long and complex sentences,frequent use of passive voice as well as a large number of proper names and technical terms.The translator reviews the translation repeatedly and verifies appropriate interpretation of terms and sentences in the source text to ensure a faithful and fluent transfer of the source information.The report firstly illustrates the background and significance of the translation project,and then introduces the implementation of the project.The third part is a case study,which is the main part of this report where the translator analyzes the use of various strategies in the translation process ranging from terms to sentences.The last part is a conclusion of the project including a summary of and the reflection upon this translation practice.
