Under the orthographic priming paradigm, some researchers found if an prime word orthographic similar to the target word was presented, the response to the target word would be affected, that is,the neighbor priming effect. At the same time,it was also found that the orthographic priming effect was affected by the relative word frequency of the prime word and target word. The high-frequency orthographic neighbors prime word inhibited the low-frequency target words. However,in Chinese reading, studies have shown that the orthographic neighbors words effect was inhibitory effect and was not affected by the relative frequency of the prime and target words(Wang et al.,2013).In this study, other words were separated between the prime word and the target word. The relative word frequency effect may be weakened. Therefore,in this study,eye-tracking technology was used to investigate the effect of neighbor words through the method of preview processing, and whether this effect was affected by the relative frequency of fixed words and preview words. This study includes three experiments:Experiment 1 used inter-word words(fixed words and preview words are two different words)to investigate whether neighbor priming effect was faciliatory or inhibitory effect and whether was affected by relative word frequency.Experiments 2a and 2b examined the effects of high-frequency neighbor words and low-frequency neighbor words preview on fixed words in the within words(fixed words and preview words belong to the same compound respectively),and set the boundary to two-character words between wordsExperiment 1 uses a 2 × 2 in-subject experiment design. One of the independent variables is preview type, which includes neighbor word previews and irrelevant word previews. The other independent variable is relative word frequency. The preview is a high-frequency condition(LF-HF condition)and when the fixed word is a high-frequency condition, the preview word is a low-frequency condition(HF-LF condition). The experimental results show that the effect of the neighbor words is affected by the relative word frequency on the whole word of the watched and previewed words. In the fixation words, when the fixation words are low frequency and the preview words are high frequency(LF-HF condition),in the first fixation time, the fixation time and the single fixation time, the neighbor word preview has a strong inhibitory effect;and When the fixation words are high frequency and the pre-view words are low frequency(HF-LF condition),there is no effect on the first fixation time, the fixation time and the single fixation time.Late index results show that neighbor word effects are not affected by relative word frequency. The neighbor word preview conditions show a inhibitory effect on the total fixation time, indicating that when the fixation word is high frequency and the preview word is low frequency(HF-LF condition),The inhibitory effect of neighbor words occurs late. The results of Experiment 1 support the interactive activation model:high-frequency orthographic neighbor words suppress the processing of low-frequency words, and low-frequency orthographic neighbor words suppress the processing of high-frequency words in the late stage. On the whole word of the preview word,it was found that the effect of neighbor words was affected by the relative word frequency. The high-frequency neighbor words previously presented had an inhibitory effect on the low-frequency preview words. It is explained again that the use of preview processing in inter-words has the inhibitory effect of neighbor words and will be affected by the relative word frequency. On the preview words, the main effect of the preview type is found. The neighbor words that appeared earlier inhibit the processing of the preview words and are not affected by the relative word frequency, which is consistent with previous studiesExperiments 2a and 2b used the boundary paradigm to investigate the effect of neighbor words under high-frequency neighbor words preview and low-frequency neighbor words preview using intra-word words, both of which are single-factor three-level experimental designs. In experiments 2a and 2b,the fixation time of consistent prevision is shorter than that of neighbor words and irrelevant previews. There is no difference in the fixation time of neighbor words and irrelevant previews.Vision all inhibits gaze words, but this does not explain the inhibition caused by competition between neighbor words. On preview words, experiment 2a found that under the condition of high-frequency preview words, the fixation time of the target word is significantly longer than consistent preview and high-frequency independent preview. This inhibitory effect of neighbor words may come from the previously presented low frequency.Processing of high-frequency preview words that appear after gaze suppression. This result also proves that the previously presented low-frequency neighbor words activate high-frequency competing words For low-frequency neighbor starting words,high-frequency neighbor words(including high-frequency neighbor target words)are stronger competitors and need to be suppressed Therefore,a suppression effect appears in the recognition of high-frequency neighbor target words later. This result also meets the assumption of the interactive activation model. In experiment 2b,only the consistent preview effect was found on the preview words, and there was no difference in the fixation time between the low-frequency neighbor words preview and the low-frequency-independent previewBased on the results of the above studies, this study found the following conclusions:The neighbors priming effect was found to be a inhibitory effect in both inter-word and intra-word words, and is affected by the relative word frequency. The results of this study support the interactive activation model...
