Nowadays,media audience is playing a increasingly important part in mass culture'production,dissemination and consumption.Henry Jenkins is a famous American cultural research scholar who has made achievements in the field of fan culture,media culture and audience research.I think researching audience view of the mass culture of Jenkins in today's China is very meaningful,it is because that China is experiencing an era of media integration at present when audience is interacting actively with media,and Jenkins' view of mass culture audience is very helpful to study the relation between the audience and the media for us.In the writing of this paper,the author will rely on text reading and literature search to study Jenkins' audience view under the framework of mass culture.This paper not only makes a horizontal comparison between Jenkins' audience view and that of other scholars,but also combs Jenkins' audience view in different periods,then trys to reveal the changing trend of his audience view,and fully excavates the complex relationship between audience and media organizations and mass culture in Jenkins' works.This paper is divided into five chapters: the first chapter describes the theoretical background of Jenkins' mass culture audience view,revealing that Jenkins' mass culture audience view has a profound academic origin.As a scholar of cultural studies in the new era,Henry Jenkins' audience view has a deep theoretical origin.His audience view comes from Stuart hall's diverse audience view,Fiske and De Certeau's resistant audience view,and McLuhan's media theory.The second chapter studies Jenkins' mass culture audience image.In this part,the author will extract three kinds of mass culture audience images from his exposition of different stages of participatory culture,and reveal how Jenkins understands the position,characteristics,nature and function of the audience in this new kind of mass culture style of participatory culture.The three kinds of images of audience of mass culture includethe fan audience as the textual poacher,the participating audience as the prosumer and the sharing audience as the spreader,which correspond to the television media era,the media fusion era and the broadcast media era respectively.The third chapter summarizes the main characteristics of Jenkins' audience view of mass culture.Firstly,Jenkins' audience view enhances the participation of audience activities,Jenkins' audience research has been developing and self-renewing around the audience's participatory culture.He believes that the participation of the audience is constantly increasing,which is not only reflected in the increasing enthusiasm of the audience in participatation,but also in the continuous improvement of the status of the audience as the participation subject and the expansion of their right in participatation.Secondly,his audience view emphasizes the synergy of audience activities.Jenkins pays great attention to excavating the synergy and collective tendency of the audience in the acceptance of mass culture,which is manifested in the synergy between the audience and the media and the synergy between the audience and the audience.Jenkins found that the common feature of the three popular culture audience image is that they all emphasize the goal of achieving "public interest ".He believes that the participation of the audience in mass culture can promote the development of social civilization to a more rational and democratic level.The fourth chapter is the value and the limitation of Jenkins' audience view of mass culture.His audience view' value firstly reflects in that it advances the comprehensive macro-view of audience research.Jenkins puts the research on the audience in the whole media cycle process and business framework.This kind of comprehensive macro vision of audience research has multiple advantages,which is especially helpful to objectively evaluate the position and role of audience in social and cultural activities.Secondly,he pioneered the humanistic research path of cross-border communication.Jenkins' first performance in cross-border communication in research methods is that he tries to combine production,education and research,showing a strong social practiceorientation.The second performance is to break the line between fans and scholars,breaking the past academic practice of "keeping distance from the object studied".Thirdly,his audience view focuses on the value of "redundant audience ".Audience outside the target audience is often seen as "redundant" by media companies in a booking-based tv mode.Jenkins believes that media companies can learn a lot by listening to the speech and behavior of these audience,and actively grasp the "redundant audience" can expand the intergenerational influence of works or programs.The limitation is reflected in Jenkins' endorsement of capitalist culture economy.He has been trying to reconcile capitalist culture economy with the initiative of the audience and has a conservative academic tendency.
