A Study On The Diet Cultural Documentary Subtitle Translation From The Perspective Of Translation Variation Theory

Nowadays,cultural exchanges around the world are becoming more frequent.The documentary plays an irreplaceable role in promoting local culture and national spirit and enhances cultural soft power.Owing to language differences,most foreign audiences need to use subtitles to understand Chinese diet culture documentaries and experience Chinese traditional culture.Therefore,the quality of subtitles directly determines the information integrity acquired by the audience and the accuracy of cultural information.In recent years,more and more people pay attention to the translation of documentary subtitles,but there are still some problems to be solved,such as mechanical translation,translation redundancy,ignorance of cultural differences,and neglect of the true connotation of diet culture.As a diet culture documentary filmed by CCTV,A bite of China shows Chinese people's unique taste appreciation,diverse diet habits and traditional cooking methods,so that the audiences can understand traditional and current China while experiencing different kinds of Chinese diet culture.Since its release,A bite of China has received a warm response from the international community.The documentary involves a large number of words and dialect vocabularies in Chinese traditional diet culture,so it is necessary to fully show alternative skills in subtitle translation.Guided by the Translation Variation Theory proposed by Professor Huang Zhonglian,this thesis analyzes the subtitle translation in the diet culture documentary A bite of China through addition,deletion,condensation,combination,edition,narration and rewriting.The translation analysis aims to summarize the feasibility of the Translation Variation Theory in subtitle translation and the general principle of subtitle translation in the diet culture documentary,so as to maximize the spread of the Chinese diet culture on the basis of the understanding of foreign audience.
