This report is based on the first two chapters of the linguistics work Language Learnability and Language Development by Steven Pinker,an American linguist. This translation practice is an E-C academic translation. It is one of the basic document translation works for a Sichuan provincial founded project. The content of the translation mainly includes two parts: the first chapter introduces the background of the article, and the language acquisition theory through the study of children's language; The second chapter elaborates the content of acquisition theory and illustrates with examples. The source text is about 25,000 words, which belongs to the informative text translation. There are a lot of professional terms and long compound sentences in the original text. For long and difficult sentences, the translator used the methods of augmented translation, free translation and word order adjustment to process the sentences and then translated them,so that the translation does not lose its linguistic characteristics derived from the text and is easier for the target readers to understand. The translator read a large number of related materials and parallel texts before translation, such as Linguistics: A Course book and The Language Instinct. On the basis of the parallel text, the translator has developed 100 pairs of Termbase and 50 corpus in Tmxmall,a translation software. After using Tmxmall to finish trial translation, the translator communicated with the project team and the tutor to revise the final version, and effectively solved the problems encountered in the translation.Under the guidance of Skopos theory, the translator selected appropriate translation strategies. The translator made case studies, studied the key points in the source text, and analyzed the translation strategies of complex sentences. This translation practice report is written in order to provide some reference for the translation of such kind of text.
