A Practice Report Of Complex Sentence Pattern On The English-Chinese Translation

With the development of the world economy,people are concerned about the importance of protecting the environment while pursuing the maximization of interests.But in recent years,marine pollution has become increasingly serious,especially in the treatment of plastic pollution.Due to its special characteristics,plastic is not easy to be degraded,and it spreads all over the beaches,offshore and deep seabed,which has gradually become the primary culprit of environmental pollution.Therefore,plastic pollution has also attracted great attention from the international community.The book of Turning the Tide on Plastic clearly describes the whole process of its production,usage and pollution,and proposes twelve countermeasures based on plastic pollution treatments,giving references for the world.For that reason,this translation practice report takes English version,Turning the Tide on Plastic,as the original text,focusing on sentence structure and discussing strategies of sentence reconstruction.The selected text for this translation report belongs to informative type and materials are accurate and professional with lots of complex sentence structure.The author sorted out the sentence patterns and classified them into three problems:sentences with complex structure,sentences with various modifiers and sentences with obscure logical relationship.After studying the translation methods of sentence structure,the author selected and adopted sentence pattern reconstruction as the translation skill,based on text characteristics of this practice.Meanwhile,specific translation methods for three translation problems mentioned above were proposed:The linear translation reconstruction method and inverse translation method were adopted to solve sentences with complex structure.The recombination reconstruction method and reversion reconstruction method were adopted to deal with sentences with various modifiers.The explicitation reconstruction method and conversion reconstruction method were adopted to solve the translation problem of sentenceswith obscure logical relationship.Based on the analysis of specific examples,the author strove to make the translation complete and smooth so that readers of the target language could get the same feeling as readers of the source language.Through this translation practice,the author's logical thinking ability and the language expression ability also improved.In addition,the author hopes that this translation practice can provide some experience and inspiration for the follow-up translation practices in related fields.
