A Report On English-Chinese Translation Of Business Agreement

Economic exchanges among countries and regions today are more frequent than ever before,and China is playing an increasingly significant role in global development.More countries and regions have been trading with China and many foreign investors have set up companies or factories in China.As the most common text used in commercial activities,English business agreement links contracting parties and plays an inevitable role in their cooperation.Its Chinese translation is attracting more attention.Although domestic studies on translation of English business agreement have been made from a variety of aspects,there are still challenges in today?s translation practice.This requires people to analyze and address them in new perspectives to improve the quality of translated agreements and provide a sound guarantee for business activities.Viewed from the theory of text types by Reiss and combined with text features of English business agreement,this report analyzes problems emerging in translating business agreement from English to Chinese(E-C)and concludes various translation techniques from the perspectives of lexical,syntactical and textual levels.Specifically,difficulties in translating some common English words with specific meanings and some juxtaposed synonyms are involved in lexical level,and reference to parallel texts,semantic variation and omission are introduced to solve the problems;from the syntactical level,translation problems of both simple and complex long sentences are mainly discussed,and strategies such as following the original syntactic order and reinventing sentence structures are adopted;and in terms of the textual level,translation of the original format and consistency of reference are described and techniques like repetition and amplification are used.It is expected that this report can provide some experience to the future E-C translation of business agreement.
