An English-Chinese Translation Report On Master Service Agreement For Power Management Services

With the rapid development of economic globalization,the business contacts and legal culture exchanges among countries are becoming increasingly frequent,which makes legal texts translation play a vital role in business activities.As a branch of legal texts,the agreement text is the legal guarantee of business activities as well as essential carrier to promote cultural and economic exchanges between China and foreign countries.Therefore,the translation of agreement texts is particularly important.Although great progress has been made in translation studies focusing on agreement texts and the professional legal English,case studies on service agreements are quite few,and the translation of concrete examples guided by translation theories are even fewer.Master Service Agreement for Power Management Services is a translation project entrusted by Harbin Coslight Power Co.,Ltd.In this report,the writer summaries the translation strategies,methods and skills employed in this project by combining with related translation theories.In the translation process,the Text Type Theory of Peter Newmark and the Text Analysis Theory of Christiane Nord are combined to guide the translation practice.On the basis of analyzing intratextual and extratextual factors affecting the original text,the application of vocabularies and a substantial proportion of long sentences in legal English language are studied from the perspective of Text Type Theory.According to its features of extensive use of terminology,archaic words,nominalized structures and modal verbs,foreignization translation strategy is adopted.In addition,according to its syntactic features of applying lengthy,rigorous and complicated sentences and passive sentences,foreignization strategy is combined with domestication strategy.Meanwhile,translation skills and methods has been improved and summed up constantly in the process of translation so as to convey the contents of the source text faithfully,accurately and objectively,thus making the translation accurate and standard.The study of this translation project also serves as a test to verify the application of relevant translation theories in the translation of legal English,providing valuable reference and learning materials for the legal professionals and translators who’re specialized in legal English translation or translators who want to work in this field.At the same time,the readers are expected to have a clear understanding of the contents of the legal text and its legal effect in order to carry out cross-border transactions and exchanges smoothly.
