With the globalization of economy and the deepening of China's reform and opening-up,communications and cooperation between Chinese and foreign companies are more frequent. As an official legal form to ensure bilateral rights and obligations as well as share losses and profits, business contracts are indispensible in the international trade. However, language is still one of the obstacles for the successful international trade, because the language of business contracts is featured with rigorous wording, complicated and long sentences and strong logicality. Therefore, much attention has been paid to the translation of business contracts in recent years. The fruitful achievements also provide strong support for the development of contract translation. The author of the report believes the researches on the translation of such type of texts are of great value for the development of international trade. There are five parts in this report. The first part is a brief introduction to the translation task, including its background, origin, significance and features. The second part includes task description, source text analysis and the requirement of the entrusting party. The third part mainly focuses on the process of translation.Time planning, adoption of translation theories, translation strategies, translation tools, parallel texts and quality control are mainly included in this part. The fourth part is case analysis.Based on the difficulties encountered in the translation practice and their solutions, guided by the theory of Peter Newmark's Functional Translation Theory, the author seriously analyzed the characteristics of each case and mainly talked about the methods adopted in the process of translation. At last,a conclusion is made to point out the limitations of this report as well as the major findings in the translation practice.Through this translation practice, the author not only had a better understanding of the linguistic features of business contracts, but also experienced the difficulties in the translation process. This report also summarizes the experiences got from the practice. The author hopes it could provide some guidance more or less to other translators in contract translation,so as to improve the efficiency and the quality of the contract translation.
