A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of Free Guide To New Zealand(Excerpt) In Perspective Of Eco-Translatology

With the vigorous development of tourism,an increasing number of Chinese tourists choose outbound tour.Meanwhile,it is essential for Chinese tourists to plan their travel itinerary and understand the destination with the help of tourist guides.Free Guide to New Zealand introduces the general situation,accommodation,food & drink,transportation,shopping and scenic spots of New Zealand.It is a detailed,convenient and practical tourist guide.Commissioned by Hainan Youyou Eco-investment Co.,Ltd,the author participates in the translation project of Free Guide to New Zealand.Under the guidance of eco-translatology,the author completes the translation of Free Guide to New Zealand(excerpt)and writes the translation report.Based on the three-dimensional adaptation and selective conversion,the author expounds the translation methods on the lexical,syntactical,textual and cultural levels.Specially,on the lexical level,diction,Chinese four-character words,literal translation,annotation,transliteration and borrowing are adopted to achieve the adaptation and selective conversion on linguistic and communicative dimensions.On the syntactical level,literal translation,addition,linear translation,reorganization of the sentence structure and conversion of voice are applied to achieve the adaptation and selective conversion on linguistic and communicative dimensions.On the textual level,specification of the demonstratives and omission of the conjunctions are taken to achieve the adaptation and selective conversion on linguistic and communicative dimensions.On the cultural level,annotation and interpretation are used to achieve the adaptation and selective conversion on cultural dimension.Through this translation project,the author finds that eco-translatology can be instructive to the translation of tourism texts like tourist guides.The application of eco-translatology in tourism translation can realize the adaptation and selective conversion on linguistic,communicative and cultural dimensions,guides the translation study of such applied tourism texts and improves the quality of tourism translation.
