The theory of spatial narrative is derived from an American literary criticism theory, which combines narratology and space theory. It is a branch of the interdisciplinary research of narratology.Unlike traditional narratology, spatial narratology focuses more on the significance and role of space. One Hundred Years of Solitude and A Dream of Red Mansions are respectively the masterpieces of Marquez and Cao Xueqin, both of which are treasures in the history of Chinese and foreign literature. There are a lot of studies on these two literary masterpieces in the academic world, and the research methods are also various, but the comparative analysis of the two works by using the spatial narrative theory is still not enough. This paper attempts to use the spatial narrative theory of Lefebvre and Gabriel Zoron to analyze and compare the two works and summarize their role in narration. The first chapter introduces the development of narratology, narratology space turn phenomenon.Traditional narratology pays more attention to the interpretation of time, while spatial narratology pays more attention to the study of literary works at the spatial level. This paper analyzes the basic frame of space narration in One Hundred Years of Solitude and A Dream of Red Mansions. The second chapter analyzes the physical space of One Hundred Years of Solitude and A Dream of Red Mansions. The physical space in One Hundred Years of Solitude consists of the town of Macondo, the house of the Boone Dia family and the alchemy room. The physical space in a Dream of Red Mansions is divided into Ningguo Mansion,Rongguo Mansion and Grand View Garden.Similarly, the physical space in the two works presents a closed ring structure, and the space environment presents the characteristics of prosperity and decline. The existence of these physical Spaces not only serves as the basis for narrative development, but also restricts human activities, generates specific social relations, condenses characters' emotions and promotes the development of narrative. The third chapter analyzes the psychological space of One Hundred Years of Solitude and A Dream of Red Mansions.Several generations of the Boone Dia family coexist with loneliness, and all the people in the Dream of red Mansions are in a sad situation. In the presentation of psychological space, the writer highlights the significance of maintaining and guarding the family by women, and also profoundly reflects the sense of destiny of the century-old family.Psychological space influences the narrative process in shaping typical images and refracting novel themes. The fourth chapter analyzes the unique magic space in the two works. The magic in One Hundred Years of Solitude has obvious Latin American cultural color, and the magic in A Dream of Red Mansions is rooted in Chinese traditional culture. The magical space under the pen of the two writers is the interweaving of magic and reality, and the existence of magic space also provides the starting point and paved the narrative path for the works. This paper makes a comparative study of One Hundred Years of Solitude and A Dream of Red Mansions by using spatial narrative theory, and gives attention to the author's life and historical background,so as to connect the author, the works, the world and the readers closely.Through the construction of the three Spaces, readers can experience the profound thinking of the two writers separated by a hundred years. It reflects the common national complex and psychological consciousness of different regional nationalities; It also reveals the theme of decline and fall of family narrative works.
