Study On The Strategies Of Cultivating Seventh Graders' English Reading Literacy

Strengthening morality education and advocating Chinese students' core competencies development,the evolution of English education is increasingly oriented towards cultivating subject-oriented core competencies.Reading is a necessary language skill for modern people and an inseparable part of learning another language.Judging from the effect of teaching practice,the cultivation of English reading literacy can generally stipulate the development of English subject-oriented core competencies.That is to help with enhancing their reading efficiency fast enough that they can develop a higher-order thinking mode and a proficient reading habit.Texts for reading are found in seventh-grade textbooks.These texts appear to be challenging for seventh graders who are used to elementary-level listening and speaking classes despite the short length of such texts.Thus,strengthening reading literacy cultivation for seventh graders is critical.For this reason,this thesis focus on how to cultivate the core competencies for Grade 7 students.First,review literature to understand research status of reading teaching at home and abroad.That is to clarify the connotations of reading literacy and interprets how Second Language Acquisition Assumption,Schema Extended Theory and cultural linguistics enlighten the teaching of English reading.Then Seventh graders from a middle school were chosen as respondents with the purpose of knowing about their status quo in English reading.Focusing on the problems existing in teaching seventh-graders reading abilities,the thesis explores the strategies in cultivating English reading literacy in teaching activities by means of action research,and concludes with teaching strategies on English reading.At last,based on survey,classroom observation and interviews,it was found that the students' English reading literacy of the above strategies achieved good results.
