Students' reading comprehension ability plays an important role in their English learning.In the process of reading,students can constantly learn new language information,broaden their horizons,improve their core English literacy and improve their ability to analyze and solve problems.The Ministry of education of China and the National Language Working Committee and the State Language Affairs Commission promulgated the China's Standards of English on April 12,2018 and put it into effect on June 1.It provides a new reference standard for primary school students' English reading comprehension.This study uses test paper survey,questionnaire survey,interviews and other research methods,based on the China's Standards of English to study the English reading comprehension ability of primary school students.It makes us understand the influencing factors of English reading comprehension ability of primary school students,the problems in reading comprehension and the reasons behind the problems and propose corresponding solutions to improve the English reading comprehension ability of primary school students and provide some reference for English teachers in primary schools.The author uses the test paper survey,from understanding written description,understanding written narrative,understanding written explanation,understanding written instruction,understanding written interaction five aspects to set the topic;The questionnaire was designed by myself to understand the influencing factors of English reading comprehension ability of senior primary school students from six dimensions: English reading emotional attitude,English reading habits,English reading frequently asked questions,English reading strategies,English reading teaching evaluation and improvement suggestions and English reading self-planning.The primary school English teachers were interviewed from several aspects,such as their understanding of the reading comprehension ability in the China's Standards of English,their training of reading comprehension ability and the training methods they adopted by them.The collected data and interview results were analyzed by the above research methods.It is found that there are many problems in actual English reading teaching,such as bad reading habits,weak awareness of English reading comprehension skills and strategies,neglect of students' dominant position and obvious differences in reading comprehension ability of different subjects,weak awareness of teachers' professional development.The data collected in this study were processed and analyzed by SPSS 22.0 software.Through the comparative analysis of various data and the results of teachers' interviews,the author puts forward some strategies to improve the English reading comprehension ability of primary school senior students,strategies for teachers:(1)update the teaching concept and optimize the teaching mode of English reading class;(2)change teachers' concept of reading teaching and establish students' correct view of reading;(3)choose appropriate teaching methods for different subjects;(4)enhance teachers' awareness of professional development.Strategies for students:(1)develop good reading habits;(2)strengthen English extracurricular reading.
