A Study Of Translator's Subjectivity From The Perspective Of Translation Aesthetics

Translation aesthetics provides a theoretical perspective for an in-depth understanding of the translator's aesthetic activities in the process of translation.As the aesthetic subject,the translator understands and appreciates the aesthetic constituents in reading the source text,and then reproduces the beauty of the source text in the target text,which is never an easy task to accomplish.Therefore,how to transmit the aesthetic effect by properly exercising subjectivity in the translation becomes a topic well worth discussion.Based on the theory of translation aesthetics,this thesis mainly discusses the display of translator's subjectivity in the Chinese translation of The Trumpet of the Swan from the formal and non-formal systems and the factors that influence the display translator's subjectivity.This study concludes that Ren Rongrong's subjectivity is fully demonstrated in the transmission of the aesthetic constituents both at formal and non-formal systems.At the level of sound,Ren Rongrong adopts similar rhyme schemes in the target text.He retains the onomatopoeic words of the source text and with the use of addition,he employs more onomatopoeic words in the target text.With the use of literal translation,addition and division,Ren Rongrong frequently utilizes reduplicated words.At the level of lexicon,Ren Rongrong chooses interesting and childish words that conform to the context and the characters' dispositions in the novel.He retains the use of euphemism and with the use of imitation,he retains pun in the target text.By employing simile,Ren Rongrong strengthens the aesthetic effect of the source text.At the level of syntax,Ren Rongrong retains parallelism and reduplication of the source text.The use of parallelism in the source text substitutes for ellipsis.He keeps the sequence of sentences in the periodical sentence of the source text.At the level of image,Ren Rongrong employs addition and reduplicated words to convey the images of the characters of the source text.At the level of ideorealm,Ren Rongrong employs adaptation to better transmit the aesthetic effect of the source text.Through the exercise of his subjectivity and a combination of various translation methods and techniques,Ren Rongrong effectively conveys the aesthetic effect of the source text.Factors affecting translator's subjectivity include translator's aesthetic emotion,aesthetic ideal,aesthetic taste,aesthetic judgment,aesthetic feeling,translator's experience,cultural attainment,knowledge accumulation,appreciation and linguistic capacities.The theory of translation aesthetics can provide guidance for the translation of children's literary works.In addition,to explore translator's subjectivity from the perspective of translation aesthetics can greatly promote the understanding about translator's subjectivity.This study provides certain reference for the theoretical study and the translation practice of children's literary works.
