This master's thesis focuses on the professional status of the Chinese language related translators in the circumstances of increasing popularity of the Chinese language in Belarus. It reports on an empirical study on the status perceptions of the Chinese language translators in Belarus. The master's thesis is based on data obtained from the questionnaire survey completed by 31 translators and interviews held with 8 translators. The translators' perceptions of their status have been assessed via the following parameters: Education and Expertise,Remuneration,Professional visibility,Power and Influence,Social importance and Value. The initial hypothesis is that despite common perception that translator in general is a low-status profession, the Chinese language translators would rank their status close to the top of the status continuum due to the Chinese language popularity in Belarus. The survey has partly proved the hypothesis.
