With the “cultural turn” of translation studies, the study of translation subjects has gradually acquired a “legal” status. The essence of the subject lies in its initiative, passivity and egoism, which together form translator's subjectivity. The inherent requirement of translator's subjectivity lies in the dialectical combination of positive and negative aspects. In the process of translation, leaning in any direction will lead to one-sided understanding of subjectivity,or suppression or exaggeration of translator's subjectivity.Only by fully understanding the content of translator's subjectivity can we have a proper understanding of the translator.Lin Yutang is a renowned writer, translator and linguist. He has profound knowledge of Chinese and western culture. And he has made outstanding contributions to promoting the cultural exchange between China and the West.In order to promote traditional Chinese culture,he has not only translated a large number of Chinese literary and cultural works and philosophical classics, but also wrote many original English works.Lin Yutang has great achievements in literary creation and translation theory, but in the translation field, the study of Lin's translation behavior and translation works has not yet reached its due level. It's very disproportionate to Lin Yutang's historical position and outstanding contributions in the fields of cultural translation,Chinesetranslation and other fields. The author attempts to analyze Lin Yutang's original English work The Importance of Living from the perspective of translator's subjectivity so as to fully reveal translator's subjectivity by interpreting Lin's translation examples. This thesis adopts the case analysis method, taking Lin Yutang's book The Importance of Living as an example to analyze translator's subjectivity.Lin Yutang's viewpoint on translator's subjectivity is well reflected in this book. Therefore, taking this book as an example,Lin Yutang's theory on translator's subjectivity can be further interpreted. The study found that translator's subjectivity is related to many factors, including the translator's cultural level, the translator's life experience, the translator's era, etc.Translation itself is a transformation between two cultures. As a dynamic process, translation is closely related to different cultures. While, due to the different cultural background of the translator, the understanding of the culture is also different.Translator's subjectivity in translation activities runs through the whole translation process, making the translator the most dynamic factor in translation activities.
