The paper is based on the author's translation of Technology and the City:Foundation for a Smart Nation, one of the book series published by the Center for Liveable Cities,Singapore, which involves an array of Singapore's public institutions'names and digitalization policies. The paper chooses "Chapter 3 Harnessing Technology for Development" as the subject of research, guided by the Text Typology Theory proposed by Katharina Reiss.According to Reiss's Text Typology theory, text is generally divided into three types:informative, expressive and operative. The purpose of an informative text is to deliver message and opinions. Its language features strong logic and concise expression. An informative text focuses on the content instead of the form. Therefore,in translating such a text, accuracy is the priority;concise and plain language is required;logical coherence is achieved by using methods such as addition and repetition.Under the guidance of the Text Typology Theory, the author analyzes difficulties in the translation practice and puts forward strategies from three aspects:accuracy, concise language and logical coherence.First, accurate interpretation of the original message is elaborated from two aspects:terminology research and critical thinking.Second, three strategies are used to achieve concise and plain language:verb-oriented language expression, flexible translation of title, and explicit translation of direct speech.Third, logical coherence is explored from two aspects:parenthesis and grammatical links. The author uses example-based approach to analyze difficulties and conclude strategies by comparing several translation versions.Translation 1 is the first draft submitted by the author;Translation 2 is the revised version from the project manager;Translation 3,if there is one,is the version modified by the author on the basis of Translation 2.Through comparative studies, the author tries to identify problems and applicable translation strategies.
