| With the rise of the Asia-Pacific region and the continuous growth of East Asian economies,international relations and cooperation in this region have become hot fields of research,so it is necessary to translate the text about relations between China and Australia.The Tyranny of Fortune: Australia's Asian Destiny,co-written by Reg Little and Warren Reed,explored the particular relations between Australia and East Asia,especially China.It discussed international relations and issues on economy,trades and politics from the perspective of traditional thinking and culture.The translator chooses the third and fourth chapters of the book as the translation text of this practice.This report mainly consists of five parts.The first chapter introduces the background and the purpose of this translation practice.The translator hopes to enhance the ability of translation and to provide materials for related researches through this practice.The second chapter sets out the content of these two chapters.This book contains many difficult sentences and involves some historical and cultural information.Therefore,the primary reading requirement of the target readers is to convey clearly and express smoothly.The third chapter describes the detailed translation process,preparations before translation,efforts during the translation as well as the feedback after the translation.The translator adopts tools such as dictionaries and the Internet in the translation process and the problems encountered are mostly about the translation and expression of words and sentences with historical backgrounds.The fourth chapter analyzes the specific words and sentences of the text from the aspects of understanding,expression and revision.In this part,mistranslations caused by the lack of relevant background knowledge and the neglect of context,mechanical translations caused by inadequate understanding of the characteristics of English and Chinese,and improper expressions caused by the neglect of the rigour of the text about international relations during the translation process are set forward and the correction process and translation strategies are explained in detail.The fifth chapter summarizes this translation practice and tells the gains,limitation and suggestions of this practice.This report aims to set out various difficulties encountered in the translation process in such aspects as understanding,expression and revision,and discusses corresponding solutions.In addition,this report hopes to provide some reference for future translation work on related texts by reflecting on the entire translation task. |
