This report is about the translation practice of chapters 9 and 10 of The Tyranny of Fortune: Australia's Asian Destiny.The book was written by Reg Little and Warren Reed.Australia's relations with China and Asia are both in urgent need of desire and action to develop cooperation.However,due to the differences in values between Australia and Asian,there are many ups and downs.This book is to explore the origin and the crux of these problems.The two authors were senior diplomats who are familiar with the eastern and western cultures.Therefore,the content of their discussion is of great significance,although the book has been published nearly 20 years,their foresight and sagacity keep it fresh.In chapter 9,the author compares the western post enlightenment world with the Confucian world,repositions Australia,and reveals the problems and dilemmas existing in Australia.Chapter 10 focuses on Australia and Asia in the global village,analyzes the reasons and advantages of Asia's rise,and expresses the urgency of Australia's urgent need for change.Chapter One of this report introduces the background and purpose of this translation practice.The Chapter Two analyzes the text of this translation practice from the perspective of vocabulary and syntax.Chapter Three reviews the process of the translation practice,including the references and tools used before translation,arrangement of translation practice and tasks,and the matters after translation.In Chapter Four,according to the characteristics of this translation practice,the translator refers to the “Comprehension,Expression and Adaption” put forward by Li Changshuan(2014)in The United Nations Document Translation Course,and the translator makes analyses of the problems encountered in translation practice separately.The translator summarizes the translation practice and limitation of the translator in Chapter Five.The genre of this book belongs to international relations text,which has the characteristics of accurate language,precise words and clear logic.This text contains many long sentences,which are the biggest difficulty and emphasis in translating this text.Through this translation practice,the translator has summed up the characteristics and translation methods of long and complicated sentences in international relations texts,and accumulated many terms in international relations texts.The translator has a deeper understanding of the international situation now.When translating the long and complicated sentences in international relations texts,the translator first takes the meaning expressed in the original work as a whole,then the translator analyzes the levels of the sentences,judges the logicalrelationships between the components of the sentences,divides the meaning groups of the sentences,clarifies the meanings of the technical language in the sentences,and finally expresses the sentences clearly according to the expression habits of Chinese to ensure the coherence and accuracy of the translation.The translator hopes that this translation practice report can provide help and reference for the translators to translate international relations texts and present the original authors' novel ideas to the readers.
