A Report On C-E Translation Of The Tour Guide Commentary Of The "Three Kongs" Scenic Area

This thesis is a translation practice report based on the English translation of the Tour Commentary of the "Three Kongs" scenic area(Confucius Temple,Confucius Family Mansion,Confucius Cemetery)in Qufu,Shandong province.This tour commentary introduces some major buildings within the "Three Kongs" scenic area,such as City Wall and Gates,Temple and Hall,Pavilions and Steles,Cemetery and Statue.This paper is composed of 4 Chapters:Chapter One is a brief introduction to the translation task related to its background,aim and significance,general information of the "Three Kongs" scenic area in Qufu as well as the thesis structure.Chapter Two illustrates the whole translation process,regarding the preliminary preparation,translation procedure and post-translation quality control.Chapter three is a more detailed case study from the lexical,syntactical and textual level.Chapter Four belongs to the conclusion,including major findings,limitations,and suggestions.This thesis will analyze the cultural-specific items with traditional Chinese characteristics and special tour presentation of the "Three Kongs" scenic area.In the"Three Kongs " scenic area,Chinese Culture refers to Confucius,Architecture and Cemetery Culture;Cultural-specific items refer to the specialized words and phrases related to the above culture,regarding the name and layout of Steles,cemeteries and other major buildings;Special tour presentation involves the commentary process for some scenic spots with strong cultural atmosphere and interesting anecdotes.Also,it includes inter-activities made for effective communication between the tour guide and visitors.Some relevant translation methods,such as literal translation,literal translation plus annotation,transliteration,transliteration plus annotation,will be proposed and used on the basis of analyzing characters of the cultural-specific items,sentences and discourses during the translation process.This thesis will resort above methods as a useful way for the guidance of the English translation process of the tour commentary of the "Three Kongs" scenic area in Qufu,to promote both this scenic area and Confucius Culture "going abroad".
