The C-E Translation Of Tour Commentary Of Scenic Spots Guided By The Skopostheorie

According to the prediction by World Tourism Organization, China would be the top tourist destination and the fourth tourist-resource country in the world by 2020. At present, the tourism has become an industry leading the tertiary industry. As the permanent venue for China-ASEAN Expo, Guangxi has witnessed a big increase in terms of the number of in-bound tourists and the earning of foreign exchange since the holding of the Expo. Under the above background, it’s quite necessary to make a research in order to improve the quality of C-E translation of the tour commentary at scenic spots, which might be one of the most important channels for foreign visitors to understand Guangxi, China, and its culture.The thesis proceeds from the framework of the skopostheorie and applies it to guide the C-E translation of the tour commentary of scenic spots. Based on the three important rules of the skopostheorie:the skopos rule (the top rule); the coherence rule and the fidelity rule which must obey the skopos rule. Along with the analysis of the text type of the tour commentary, the thesis states that the skopostheorie is one of the most applicable and functional theory for C-E translation of the tour commentary. Through a summarization on characteristics of the tour commentary, the thesis elaborates on the two important principles in C-E translation of the tour commentary:the foreign-tourist-oriented principle and the Chinese-culture-oriented principle. By taking the tour commentary of Guangxi Museum of Nationalities (GXMN) as a case, the thesis makes analysis on problems usually occured in C-E translation of the tour commentary and finally proposes methods on C-E translation of the tour commentary based on a lot of examples.It is hoped that the thesis could provide some useful reference for those who have interest in or engage in C-E translation of the tour commentary, and it could be of a little help for improving the quality of C-E translation of the tour commentary, so as to attract more foreign tourists to visit Chinese scenic spots.
