This report chooses Chapter One and Two of Ocean Outbreak: Confronting the Rising Tide of Marine Disease as its translation materials.This translation report can arouse the attention of people to environmental protection.The source text focuses on the large–scale death of marine microorganisms such as starfish,sea fans and abalone due to the invasion of unknown epidemic.Based on Reiss’ s Text Typology,texts were divided into three main types which are informative text,expressive text and operative text.And the type of text determines the choice of proper translation skills.According to Reiss’ s Text Typology,Ocean Outbreak: Confronting the Rising Tide of Marine Disease falls into informative text.Reiss thinks,when translating informative texts,the translator should represent the information of the original comprehensively and accurately with explicit and plain language to the usage of the target language.Under the guidance of Reiss’ s Text Typology Theory,translator first analyzes the characters of the original text and then summarizes the translation skills of this kind of text at the level of vocabulary and sentences with specific examples.In the chapter four,by combing difficulties in the process of translation,further translation methods have been summarized from the following perspectives such as conversion of the parts of speech,omission,amplification,the voice conversion and extension of word meaning.This translation report shows that text typology is helpful in determining translation standards and strategies of informative texts and in improving translation quality.
