With the rapid development of China’s infrastructure, highway engineering has become one of the most important fields of international cooperation.Based on the Code of Engineering Test Work of Highway Engineering, and guided by Reiss’ s Theory of Text Typology, this practice report aims to study the translation strategies and methods of engineering documents,a type of the scientific text.According to Reiss’ s Theory of Text Typology, the scientific text is a kind of informative text. The translation of informative text should focus on the content of the source text and its meaning should be translated precisely.Besides, the translation should be guided by the culture of the targeted readers.Munday also gives his standard that the translated text should be logic and concise in translating informative text.Guided by the above rules, the author adopts different kinds of translation strategies and methods when it comes to the translation of specific words and sentences. For example, when translating professional terms, the author searches online and paper resources to decide on the exact terms;as for the translation of some abbreviated words, the author makes annotations to avoid misunderstanding;for the translation of non-professional words, the author manages to make the translated text more acceptable to the targeted readers by adopting the conversion approach. Moreover, many translation methods are adopted to realize the text function in translating sentences, such as using amplification to ensure the accuracy of the translated text, using omission to keep the sentences brief and using conversion to maintain the logic of the translated text.It is hoped that this practice report could offer some new solutions to the C-E translation of the scientific text. |
