The COVID-19 pandemic swept the world in 2020.In the face of this major public health emergency,the world is taking actions.Therefore,source text in this paper is anti-pandemic guidelines provided by the European Union Health Commission to cruise industry operators,so that EU members can prepare for and actively respond to the virus.Originating from practice,this translation exhibits certain value both in practical and theoretical aspect,and also plays an important role in grooming for professional translators who have excellent skills and are responsible.The content of the source text itself will also help promote the mutual learning of beneficial experience between China and the West in the human anti-epidemic war,and jointly promote the recovery of the cruise tourism market in the post-epidemic era.This paper,based on the text typology theory proposed by Katharina Reiss who is the founder of German Functional Translation Theory,analyzes the translation of a document named COVID-19 Guidance for Cruise Lines.This paper divides the translation into two processes: phase of analysis and phase of reverbalization.The phase of analysis includes analysis of text type,text variety,and text style.After analysis at both the micro and macro levels,the author defines the text type of the translation material as informative text with a single text function,the text variety as a practical and applied text,and the text style as faithful and accurate,objective and neutral,concise and comprehensive.During the phase of reverbalization,how to satisfy the principles of accuracy,objectivity,and conciseness and apply the language that conforms to the tradition of the target language to translate the source text has become an important factor affecting translation quality.To this end,the author focuses on how to ensure the accuracy,objectivity,conciseness and readability of information text,and also settle on specific translation methods such as part-of-speech conversion,activepassive voice conversion,additions,etc. |
