A Study On Local Officials And Changes Of Customs In Song Dynasty

Ancient officials attached great importance to the relationship between politics and customs,trying to influence people’s thoughts and behaviors with official values,so as to make the social order maintained by folk customs close to the direction required by official rule.Custom is not only the product of people’s spontaneous formation because of their life needs,but also changes along with the official political consciousness,so as to better assist the official rule.Custom is an important factor in local governance,the process of local officials’ custom management in Song Dynasty is worth exploring.As a bridge between the state and the local government,the local officials in the Song Dynasty instilled the customs and policies of the court into the local people,and implemented specific measures to change the customs,which is a process of local governance.Through the discussion of specific areas,it is convenient to carry out the research on the actual situation of local officials’ implementation of custom policies in Song Dynasty.Taking local officials and customs changes in Song Dynasty as the research object,Fujian Road in Song Dynasty was taken as the core research area,this paper studies the local governance of local officials on customs in Song Dynasty from four aspects.First of all,through the analysis of the criteria of local official evaluation of Customs in Song Dynasty and the factors influencing the evaluation of customs,this paper discusses the customs view of local officials in Song Dynasty.Secondly,this paper takes Confucianism as the criterion to discuss the vulgar customs in Fujian area in Song Dynasty,some characteristics of customs of Fujian Road in Song Dynasty can be found through comparative study.Thirdly,through the investigation of the practice of the local officials’ custom change in Song Dynasty,we can see that they took many measures to change the local vulgar customs by combining the propaganda and education with the administrative intervention,hoping to realize the social vision of the harmony between the government and the people through the political practice of the custom governance.Finally,by discussing the effect of local officials’ changing customs in Song Dynasty and the response of civil society,we can see the influence of the political practice of local officials’ changing customs on local customs in Song Dynasty.From this,we can find that the process of local officials’ changing customs in Song Dynasty is not only the interactive process of the official and folk,but also the interactive process of their political practice and custom changing in Song Dynasty.
