A Report On The Translation Of Su Tong Sanwen(Excerpt) From The Perspective Of Translation Aesthetics

The emergence and development of aesthetics provide a good platform and solid foundation for the literary translation study.Since translation and aesthetics complement each other,translation aesthetics provides a new perspective for the study of translation of literary works with the combination of the two.On the basis of careful studies of traditional Chinese translation theories and western translation theories,Liu Miqing has established the basic framework of translation theory system,and his book Introduction to Translation Aesthetics has also been highly praised and recognized by domestic scholars.The translated text is composed of seven essays selected from Su Tong Sanwen,a collection of essays written by Su Tong,a famous writer in Suzhou,Jiangsu Province.They are respectively Song of Bicycles,Three.Trees,Rain and Tiles,Time-honored Love,Take Your Time,Time Tunnel and About Winter.These language materials are mainly in relation to childhood and social lives.Su Tong's essays are delicate and flexible in language,and are skilled in stimulating readers' inner feelings in the form of prose in the aspects of every daily trivial matter and commonplaces.After analysis and translation,the author(of this report)takes Liu Miqing's translation aesthetics as the theoretical guidance,analyzes from the perspectives of aesthetic subject and aesthetic object and makes an in-depth study on how the target text realize the aesthetic value and reproduce the aesthetic effect of the original text in the aspects of sound,lexis,emotion and image,so as to further realize the harmonious unity of beauty in form and content.To a large extent,it turns out that accurate and adequate appreciation of aesthetic elements embodied in the source text can provide guidance for the translator to represent its formal beauty and non-formal beauty.Therefore,it is a significant attempt to study Su Tong Sanwen from the perspective of Liu Miqing's translation aesthetics,and translation aesthetics is indeed practical in guiding the essay translation.It is hoped that this translation practice can be of reference value for future research on essay translation.
