The first Romantic art songs appeared in the first years of the 19th century, such as Gretchen am Spinnrade(1814)and Die schone Mullerin(1828)by F.Schubert.For the first time in history, the Romantic composers used a great sum of poems in their art songs as lyrics and inspiration of their music, which made their works unique, elegant and easy to understand. After the Romantic art songs finally spread to China in the first years of the 20th century,Chinese musicians combined the music with traditional Chinese culture and music, creating a new form of Chinese music-Chinese art songs. In this thesis, two art songs,Heidenroslein and Hua Fei Hua,are taken as examples,to get a comparative research of the music styles of Schubert and Huangzi from their lyrics, music structures and singing methods. They both contain the figure of "flower" in their works. It would be easy to tell that Schubert had a strong influence towards Huangzi, which made the creations of Huangzi and other Chinese art song composers to combine both the Western art song techniques and Chinese traditional music elements together. The musical styles of the two works have their similarities and differences. They not only strengthen the role of piano accompaniment and pursue the unity of lyrics and music, but also have different points of musical structure, piano accompaniment form and ending processing, emotional keynote and composition intention.Huang Zi's,and Huang Zi and others integrated Chinese traditional music elements on this basis. With this thesis,it is hoped that the comparison between Schubert and Huangzi will make the singers learn more about the two songs, knowing their unique characteristics,to perform their works in a better way.
