A Report On The Translation Of Political News Commentaries In New Yorker Under The Text Analysis Model Of Nord

This paper is a translation practice report,and the translation materials are selected from The New Yorker magazine.It is a comprehensive magazine of American knowledge and literature.The New Yorker is not a complete news magazine,but its in-depth coverage of major events in the United States and international politics and society is one of its characteristics.In this translation practice process,the author selected three political commentary articles published in "The Political Scene" section of the New Yorker magazine from March to May 2017 for translation.The main content is about the relevant news coverage after the American Presidential Election.Through this translation practice,the author aimed to make the Chinese readers know more about the characteristics of the news commentary writing of foreign mainstream media and their attitudes and opinions on American domestic politicsThis translation practice report is mainly carried out from the two aspects,the text analysis theory of Nord and translation strategies analysis.Guided by Nord's text analysis model,this paper analyzes the original texts from the perspectives of extratextual and intratextual factors,making analysis and summaries of the characteristics,purpose and function.And then based on the extratextual and intratextual factors presented by Nord,the author provided the corresponding translation strategies for specific problemsThe report consists of five parts:task descriptions,task process,the theoretical guidance,case analysis and the conclusion of translation practice.Task descriptions mainly includes the purpose and significance,as well as the brief introduction to the translation materials.Task process mainly introduces the preparations before translation,the translation process,and the proofreading and revising process.The theoretical guidance part introduces the development of the Nord's theory as well as the extratextual and intratextual factors.The case analysis part is the core part of the report,which analyzes the extratextual and intratextual factors of the original text,and then carries out the translation strategies selection based on all the factors.The last part is the conclusion of the translation practice,mainly summarizes the feelings and experiences,as well as the limitations of the translation.
