Practice Report Of Interpreting For 2016 Northeast Asia Forum

Based on the analysis of my simultaneous interpreting for 2016 Northeast Asia Forum,the thesis concludes that preparation plays a key role in enhancing faithfulness,thereby positively influencing interpreting quality.In line with the theories of linguistics and communication,Professor Cai Xiaohong concludes the five fundamental parameters of interpreting quality evaluation in her book,Interpretation and Evaluation,which are,faithfulness,linguistic accuracy,fluency of interpreting,flexibility and efficiency of used communicative tactics,and satisfaction of targeted customers.Studies on interpreting quality evaluation ha've demonstrated that,among the five fundamental parameters,faithfulness is the most important indicator.Faithfulness is to render source language into a target language in an integrated and accurate manner,and to correctly deliver the intention of a speaker to the audience.The three perspectives of faithfulness lie respectively in language,information and communication.Only by integrating the three perspectives can an interpreter maintain interpreting faithfulness.Interpreting faithfulness can be interpreted by information units.The evaluation result can be quantified by comparing the information units of source language with that of target language.Faithfulness and preparation are inseparable.Preparation has a positive impact on faithfulness from the perspectives of language,information and communication.Faithfulness prevails among the parameters of interpreting quality evaluation,while preparation enhances faithfulness.Therefore,preparation plays a key part in improving interpreting quality.Through comparing interpreting segments with preparation to those without preparation and evaluating their level of faithfulness,the thesis proves that preparation positively influences faithfulness.The thesis aims to draw attention among interpreters to the relationship among preparation,faithfulness and interpreting quality,which enables them to better fulfill an interpreting task,elevate professional interpreting skills and meet interpreting qualifications.
