The wildest gap between human beings and animals lies in thinking.With the development of the society,thoughts of human beings have become more and more intricate.Mind mapping is a visible thinking instrument which can make human thoughts more logical and clearer.Recently,mind mapping has been widely used in many social fields,especially in education.English grammar,one of the most logical parts of English learning,has the same feature with mind mapping.Some scholars have already applied mind mapping to English grammar teaching in China.It is based on their research that the author sets the subject on basic English tense teaching according to the requirements raised by the teaching material,Obligatory One,published by Beijing Normal University.Traditional grammar teaching method presents students a linear way to study.On the basis of teachers' explanation,students always recite and practise to master the grammar points.Traditional teaching method can convey the learning contents quickly and complete the teaching aims quickly;however,it has some drawbacks,for example,the grammar points are easy to forget and hard to understand,etc.While mind mapping takes various colors and lines as the carrier and images as the form of expression,which can provide convenience for students' previewing,learning and reviewing,for teachers' preparing,presenting and checking,and can guarantee the result of study at the same time.This experiment takes 62 students in two parallel classes in Minjin High School in Nanyang as the subject.The two classes are randomly selected as Control Class(CC)and Experimental Class(EC).Pre-questionnaire was conducted on September 1,2019,which aimed to collect information about students' attitudes towards English grammar and interest in English grammar.On September 1,2019,the pre-test was conducted to ensure that students' grammar level in EC and CC was the same,on the basis of which the four-month teaching experiment was carried out.The post-questionnaire and post-test were both conducted on January 10,2020 to find out the changes in students' grammar level.In order to reflect the experimental results better,the same questionnaire was issued in both the pre-questionnaire and the post-questionnaire.Pre-test,pre-questionnaire,post-test and post-questionnaire were all carried out in both EC and CC at the same time.This research mainly adopts the methods of literature analysis,questionnaire survey and tests to find out the effectiveness of applying mind mapping to English tense teaching in high school.Research questions are as follows:1.What's the influence of mind mapping on high school students' attitudes towards English tense learning?2.What's the effect of mind mapping on high school students' Englishmastery of English tense?3.How can mind mapping be better applied to high school English tense teaching?The thesis is made up of six chapters.Chapter one mainly introduces the background and significance of this research.Research questions,research methods and the structure of this thesis are also mentioned here.Chapter two presents the achievements and deficiencies of the studies done before on the application of mind mapping to English teaching and the application of mind mapping to English tense teaching.Chapter three introduces the theoretical basis of mind mapping—schema theory,related concepts of mind mapping,and the relationship between schema theory and mind mapping.On the basis of this,the author puts forward mind mapping teaching model of English grammar.Chapter four is the core part of the research,design of the experiment.Due to the limitation of the teaching material,the teaching experiment focuses on basic English tenses.The author raises three hypotheses on the basis of the research questions and uses different grammar teaching methods in EC and CC.Chapter five is data analysis,including analysis of the data collected in the pre-test,post-test,pre-questionnaire and post-questionnaire.Chapter six is the conclusion.
