Romantic aesthetics laid the foundation for modern western aesthetics, and had a profound impact on the development of literature and aesthetics in Europe and even the world. However, due to the differences of philosophical and cultural backgrounds, there are various disputes about the romantic aesthetics value between Chinese and western philosophy,Therefore,in order to get accurate understanding of romantic aesthetics and promote the prosperity and development of Chinese and western philosophy,it is necessary to redefine the value of romantic aesthetics. This report is based on the rendering of a research article “19th Century Romantic Aesthetics” written by American scholar Keren Gorodeisky.Starting from the specific philosophical issues of reason, epistemology and metaphysics, ethics and politics and nature, the source text focuses on the romanticism view of primacy of the aesthetic and interprets the 19 th Century Romantic Aesthetics. This text is different from general reading materials. It contains plenty of philosophical background information, abstract language, complex meaning. Therefore,a clear understanding of the philosophical ideas of the original text and proper expression is the key to translation of such texts. If author adopts traditional translation theories,it may be difficult to achieve the complete translation of philosophical texts, and targeted readers may encounter comprehension or reading difficulties when encountering unfamiliar philosophical background information. At this time,“Thick translation” may be a good choice.Scholars often use this theory to study the translation of classics, literature or colonial culture,so as to present readers with a more comprehensive translation, and to reproduce exotic ethnic customs by virtue of the advantages of this translation theory. Therefore, based on the Thick translation proposed by Kwame Anthony Appiah, the author uses footnotes or parentheses strategies in view of relevant philosophical characters and works, translation names and concepts involved in source text, and puts the source text into a rich linguistic cultural context. This translation report can be divided into four parts. The first part is the description of translation tasks;the second part is the translation process;the third part,as the core of this translation report, focuses on case analysis with the help of Thick translation theory, and the last part is translation practice conclusion.
