The Research Of The Pictophonetic Cognates

Shuowenjiezi written by Xu shen of the Eastern Han Dynasty is the first dictionary in China,which contains many words and retains the original meaning of a large number of words.This book is a valuable material for our etymology research.Yupian written by Gu yewang of the Southern Dynasty is another large book after Shuowenjiezi,whose collection is more than twice as large as Shuowenjiezi,which can enlarge the scope of the family of homonyms in Shuowenjiezi,so that we can study the problems and summarize the rules more accurately.This article selects 17 phonetic signs and pictophonetic characters composed of phonetic symbols in Shuowenjiezi and Yupian of Song Dynasty as the research object,witch to be classified into three categories according to the Yin Yang and Ru rhymes,on the basis of predecessors' research further expanding the scope of examination and linkage of the cognates.We use this as a material to explain the problem and summarize the rules about the cognate words and the phonetic symbol source tracking function.The article is divided into six parts.The first part is paper's introduction.This part briefly describes the background and current situation of the research,summarizes the existing research results,defines relevant concepts,and explains the objectives,methods,routes,significance and values of the study.The second part is the connection and interpretation of the Yin rhyme homologous characters.This part tracks "Yu,Shou,Bi,Nu,Yu,Zhi,Jie,Wu," and so on 8 phonological symbols and pictophonetic words one by one,on the basis of existing research explores the cognate meaning and linkages cognate words,analyzes and summarizes cognates.The third part is the connection and interpretation of the Yang rhyme homologous characters.This part tracks "Cang,Tong,Shang,Bin" and so on 4 phonological symbols and pictophonetic words one by one,on the basis of existing research explores the the cognate meaning and linkages cognate words,analyzes and summarizes cognates.The fourth part is the connection and interpretation of the Ru rhyme homologous characters.This part tracks "Bi,Bai,Ji,Dai,Hai" and so on 5 phonological symbols and pictophonetic words one by one,on the basis of existing research explores the the cognate meaning and linkage cognate words,analyzes and summarizes cognates.The fifth part is the analysis of questions about the phonetic symbol source tracking.This part mainly summarizes and analyzes the research results of the second to the fourth parts,and analyze the related problems in the study of the phonetic symbol source tracking by the collected cognates.Firstly,according to the cognate meaning,we file the 17 phonological symbols and pictophonetic words in a table.110 groups of cognate words are concluded.Secondly,the related problems of phonetic characters and cognate meaning are analyzed.Finally,the related characteristics of phonetic.symbol source tracking are explained,such as complexity,motivation and times.The sixth part is the conclusion.This part summarizes the paper and points out the shortcomings of the paper and the space for further research.
