Based on the current situation of college English teaching in China,the concept of production-oriented approach(POA)was first proposed by Wen Qiufang in 2014.Ever since then,the teaching concept has gradually attracted the attention from both scholars and teachers.The production-oriented approach aims to solve the issues of “separation of study and application”,“time-consuming and inefficient performance” in Chinese foreign language teaching so as to achieve efficient classroom output and maximize the learning effect.This concept also caters to high school students who are craving for impressive academic grades.Therefore,it is proposed in this research that production-oriented approach be applied to English reading classes in senior high school so as to testify its effectiveness.Compared with the traditional intensive reading teaching,the enabling stage of production-oriented approach can improve the high school students' English reading skill(in order to ensure the accuracy of the experiment,the enabling stage used in production-oriented approach corresponds to the lead-in stage in the intensive reading teaching.The assessing stage of production-oriented approach corresponds to the stage of the intensive reading teaching in which the teacher helps the students to summarize the key points in class).The specific research focuses on the following two research topics:(1)Compared with intensive reading teaching,can the enabling stage in “productionoriented approach” effectively improve students' reading skill?(2)Compared with intensive reading teaching,can the enabling stage in “productionoriented approach” enhance students' interest in reading?In view of the aforementioned issues,this research relies the method of mixed research to ensure the accuracy of the experiment.The data provided by students and teachers have been collected in the form of questionnaire survey and interview materials.In addition,quantitative analysis of pre-test and post-test is conducted to prove whether the students' output ability has been improved.Finally,independent sample test of SPSS 25.0 was used for data analysis.The research object of this research is class 1(experimental class)with POA teaching method adopted,and Class 2(control class)which uses the conventional teaching method.The experiment lasted for 12 weeks.The results show that after the experiment,students have developed a strong interest in reading and a high degree of recognition of production-oriented approach.The results of the test show that the experimental class have made a better performance than the control class.It further demonstrates that compared with the traditional intensive reading classes,production-oriented approach can indeed help students improve their English reading ability.
