Under the influence of traditional exam-oriented education,the phenomenon of “separation of input and output” is serious in China.According to this problem in English teaching in China,professor Wen Qiufang put forward the Production-oriented Approach,a second language learning theory with Chinese characteristics.Since the theory was proposed,many teaching experiments,which were all applied in College English teaching,have been carried out based on it.Reading,as the main input method in English learning,is closely related to writing and critical thinking skills.In order to explore whether the Production-oriented Approach is applicable to English teaching in senior high schools,the study applied it to English reading teaching in a senior high school based on relevant teaching theories,and carried out an empirical study for a semester to answer the following three questions:1.To what extent does English reading teaching based on Production-oriented Approach affect students' reading motivation in senior high schools?2.To what extent does English reading teaching based on Production-oriented Approach affect students' critical thinking skills in senior high schools?3.To what extent does English reading teaching based on Production-oriented Approach affect students' reading achievement in senior high schools?This experiment was conducted from September 2019 to January 2020 in a senior high school in Jinzhou.Two parallel classes in grade one were selected for the experiment,including 50 students in CC(Class 11)and 50 students in EC(Class 12).In the experiment,the same teacher used traditional teaching method in CC and the Production-oriented Approach in EC.SPSS 19.0 was used to analyze the data of the experiment.The results showed that after a semester of experiment,the reading motivation of students in EC increased marginally in the dimension of reading curiosity and improved significantly in the dimensions of reading challenge,submissive reading and the importance of reading;The critical thinking skills of students in EC improved significantly in the dimensions of curiosity,analytical and maturity.In addition,the reading achievement of students in EC also improved significantly.Therefore,compared with the traditional teaching method,the Production-oriented Approach has a positive impact on students' reading motivation,critical thinking skills and reading achievement in EC according to the results of the data analysis.It is hoped that the results of this study could provide some reference for the application of Production-oriented Approach in English reading teaching.
