With the development of globalization,the role of English in international communication and cooperation is increasing day by day.In recent years,in order to meet the needs of social development,education has been constantly reformed,and the status of English writing in English teaching has been constantly enhanced,accounting for an increasing proportion in all kinds of examinations.Therefore,how to help students improve their English writing ability has become a common topic in English teaching.However,English writing has long been a source of vexation for students.When it comes to English writing,students complain about it and feel anxious,nervous and even afraid.The series of fear and rejection psychology that accompanies students in English writing is defined as "English writing anxiety".Stephen D.Krashen(1981)pointed out in the affective filter hypothesis that learners' language acquisition process would be affected by learners' affective factors,including anxiety,self-confidence and learning motivation.He believed that these affective factors were like adjustable filters,which could make or hinder the passage of language materials.Junior high school is a crucial stage for students to learn English,especially for students in Grade 7 who have a preliminary contact with English writing,so their English writing level is relatively low,which requires us to pay more attention to the English writing of these students.By understanding the current situation and the causes of junior high school students' English writing anxiety,this study explores the countermeasures to relieve students' writing anxiety,so as to reduce students' writing anxiety and improve their English writing level.The author selects 328 students of Grade 7 in Zheng Zhou No.4Middle School as the research object,and adopts English proficiency test,observation method,questionnaire and interview as the research methods to mainly discuss: 1.How is writing anxiety among seventh graders? 2.What causes seventh-grade students' English writing anxiety? 3.What is the change in the writing level of grade 7 students after the implementation of the countermeasures to relieve their writing anxiety? 4.What is the impact on the writing anxiety of Grade 7 students after the implementation of the countermeasures to alleviate their writing anxiety? Before the teaching experiment,a questionnaire survey on writing anxiety was conducted among six classes to learn about the anxiety of Grade 7 students in English writing,and an English writing test was conducted to investigate the students' English writing level.Then the data were analyzed by SPSS and Excel.Furthermore,the author randomly selected 18 students from six classes,15 teachers and 18 parents for interviews.This study found that in junior high school students' English writing anxiety is serious,and the causes of students' English writing anxiety are complicated.The main factors include students' English writing foundation,the use of writing strategies,teachers' teaching methods,and students' learning environment.In order to relieve students' anxiety in English writing,this study proposes a series of measures to relieve students' anxiety from the aspects of in-class teaching method transformation and extracurricular activities.Half a semester after the implementation of these strategies,the post-test of writing ability was conducted again.It is found that students' English writing level has been improved obviously and their writing anxiety has been reduced.This shows that the measures taken are effective,and it alleviates students' anxiety in English writing and improves their English writing level.This study can also provide some references for the study of English writing anxiety.
