With the incessant development of China's senior high school EFL teaching practice,senior high school EFL teachers are increasingly more concerned with the use of approaches and methods of teaching,but most of the teachers are not able to understand,manage and use the approaches and methods in a systemic way,thereby reducing the efficiency of senior high school EFL teaching.In the same way,with the constant growth of China's English teaching research,the study of senior high school English teaching has made great progress,but the study of the use of teaching approaches and methods by senior high school EFL teachers is still relatively inadequate.Oriented to the above-mentioned problem of being lack of the awareness of managing and using the teaching approaches and methods in a systemic way,the present study attempts to obtain an empirical understanding of the use of teaching approaches and methods by senior high school EFL teachers,with 30 English teachers and 200 students from Yantai No.3 senior high school as participants,through an integrated method combining such techniques as questionnaire survey,interview and observation and involving such instruments as questionnaires,interview and observation questions,with the Excel 2017 as the statistical instrument,on the guideline of systemic thinking and on the theoretical basis of teaching approaches and methods of Jack C.Richards and Theodore S.Rodgers.Through the comprehensive research methods and procedures of the combination of quantitative research and qualitative research,results generated from the study show that senior high school EFL teachers are all aware of the significance of teaching approaches and methods in EFL teaching practice,but only a few senior high school EFL teachers can systematically manage the teaching approaches and methods,and that senior high school EFL teachers are not able to use different kinds of teaching approaches and methods systematically in EFL teaching practice.This study will hopefully have both practical and academic significance to senior high school EFL teaching.Practically,the results of this study can directly provide a basis for English teaching and training of senior high school EFL teachers.Academically,this study will complement for the inadequacy in the study of the use ofteaching approaches and methods by senior high school EFL teachers.
