1927-1937 was the "Golden Decade" of the development of Hangzhou during the Republic of China.During this period,Hangzhou's modernization has made great progress, the people's lives in Hangzhou are generally stable, and there is a more favorable space for survival and development. However, after the July 7th Incident, the brutal aggression by the Japanese army interrupted the process of modernization in Hangzhou. As the Japanese army went south, the people fled, and Hangzhou's social order fell into chaos. In the early days of the fall, all walks of life in Hangzhou fell into a state of stagnation or even regression. With the establishment of the colonial order in the occupied area by the Japanese puppet regime,Hangzhou's public order gradually improved and the population returned. However, due to the high-pressure rule and plunder destruction of the Japanese puppets,Hangzhou's social and economic development is far from the level before the war.In the early days of the fall, the Japanese army created various atrocities through military incursions, resulting in innumerable population and property losses, and people's lives changed from "normal" to "abnormal." Various problems such as scarce materials, blocked traffic, and a messy urban environment subsequently became prominent, which seriously affected the daily lives of ordinary people and caused a significant decline in their quality of life.In the late period of the fall, the life of the people in Hangzhou changed from "abnormal" to "normal colonial".The Japanese puppets increased their compulsory plundering of the occupied areas, and hyperinflation caused by various factors caused prices in Hangzhou to soar, and the life index soared. The gap between ordinary people ' s daily expenditures and incomes has increased, especially for working-class people who cannot make ends meet, making it difficult for the people in the occupied areas to survive, and their lives gradually fall into collapse. As part of the ordinary people in the enemy-occupied area of Hangzhou, although the production and lifestyles of groups such as single gangs, laborers, students, and monks and nuns are different, their commonexperiences and mentality reflect the difficult life of ordinary people under the oppression of the Japanese colonial order. The Japanese army launched a war of aggression and imposed colonial rule of "supporting war with war" in the occupied area, which hindered the process of China's modernization and caused unimaginable disasters to China. The people in the occupied area are even the primary victims of the Sino-Japanese War.The people cannot trust the government of the occupied area because of the atrocities of the Japanese army.At the same time, the difficulty of survival further stimulates their sense of resistance and behavior, and promotes them to form a national identity. This also declared the defeat of Japanese colonial rule and the doomed defeat of the war of aggression against China.
