The late Qing Dynasty was one of the most developed traditional carving techniques.The integration of Chinese and Western cultures makes the techniques of traditional carving art get developed.During this period,the carving art of traditional doors and windows in our country is provided with the characteristics of diversity.This paper mainly expounds the decorative art of the window carving figures of the houses in East Hunan in the late Qing Dynasty,explores and sorts out the significance of the visual arts of the decorative figures in the traditional residential buildings,and has a positive reference value for the design of modern door and window carving.In order to make the window houses in East Hunan in the late Qing Dynasty understood more intuitively,based on field investigations,this paper carries out field investigation mainly for the existing residential buildings in East Hunan in the late Qing Dynasty.Meanwhile,with the adpotion of the methods of classification and comparative analysis,in combination with the theoretical research in a variety of disciplines such as architecture,aesthetics and folklore,the regional cultural types and characteristics of the window carving patterns of the houses in East Hunan in the Late Qing Dynasty are sorted out to the greatest extent,with the first-hand information on the actual situation of the existing residential buildings in East Hunan in the Late Qing Dynasty being orgainzed and drawn.This paper focuses on three aspects.Macro level: the basic situation of the existing residential houses in eastern Hunan in the late Qing Dynasty was sorted out,and the influence of the regional environment,cultural environment and historical environment on the window lattice figures of residential houses in eastern Hunan in the late Qing Dynasty was analyzed,and the existing window lattice types and carving techniques in eastern Hunan in the late Qing Dynasty were summarized.It is concluded that eastern Hunan in the late Qing Dynasty was influenced not only by native Huxiang culture and Chu culture,but also by foreign Western culture,Central Plains culture and Hakka culture.The characteristics of the atmosphere and simplicity of the window lattice in the residential houses in eastern Hunan,as well as the concise decoration of the window lattice and the elaborate interior features;On the middle level: this paper analyzes the four types of themes commonly used in carving figures of window lattice in residential houses in eastern Hunan in the late Qing Dynasty,summarizes and analyzes the four types of auspicious meanings of window lattice figures,and sorts out the composition,shape and color of window lattice figures.In the late Qing Dynasty,the window lattice graphics of residential houses in easternHunan were dominated by symmetrical composition,and the shape had the characteristics of planarization.The colors were red,white and black,as well as the inherent color of window lattice materials;On the micro level: the window lattice figures of the residential houses in eastern Hunan were compared with those of different levels and different regions,and the regional characteristics of the window lattice figures of the residential houses in eastern Hunan were "straightforward,simple,plain and simple".Finally,the paper discusses the enlightenment and prospect of window lattice carving on contemporary design.In today's rapidly developing social environment,window lattice graphics,as the carrier of history,culture,folk custom,art and other symbols,are of great significance for carrying forward the unique personality of contemporary design.
