The basic color words are commonly used by us,they are not only used to refer to the color of things, but also people's cognition and the way they think of color. The origin of the meaning of the basic color words in Chinese and Thai reflects the similarities and differences of the concepts and cultures between the two nationalities. In addition, from the perspective of cross-cultural communication,non-native language learners will make errors when using basic color words, which will have an impact on communication process. Also,by comparing the differences in cultural backgrounds reflected by the two languages,we can analyze the causes of those errors in order to be able to solve them. The research object of the study are five basic color words which are black, white, red, yellow and green in both Chinese and Thai. Moreover, this paper uses corpus technology to analyze the semantic distribution of these basic color words in modern Chinese and Thai, and studies the similarities and differences of the semantic distribution of these basic color words from the perspective of cross-cultural communication. The paper is divided into two parts:The research methods of this paper are divided into two parts:“The Distribution of Meaning" and "The Comparison of Meaning".The introduction part is about the possible problems of color words using among foreign students who study Chinese.Besides, the research of basic color words in history is related to this study. As a result, the color words that have been studied in Thailand and China contribute to the basis, research method, research purpose and corpus source of this paper. In the first chapter, the author takes the Thai color words "black"(in Thai is[dam 33]11)as the e research object, then exracts and establishes the corpus of"[dam 33]"from the modern Thai corpus, and obtains the distribution of the meaning of "[dam 33]"in modern Thai language. In addition to the existing meaning in the emperor of Thailand,"black" in Thai has "bad","magic that can't be seen" and "illegal" with four meanings of "[dam 33]" in total and then semantics of the word "black" in both Chinese and Thai are compared, the same and different meanings of "black(hei)in Chinese" and"black[dam 33]in Thai" are obtained. Then, the common and different meanings of Chinese and Thai basic color words are analyzed with color emotion. In the second chapter, the author takes the Thai color words "white" in Thai is[kha:w 14]12)as the research object, then extracts and establishes the corpus of"[kha:w 14]" from the modern Thai corpus, and obtains the distribution of the meaning of "[kha:w 14]" in modern Thai language.According to the existing meaning in the emperor of Thailand,"white in Thai" has "clean" and "Clothes for the Buddhism obey the rules of Buddha" with two meanings of "[kha:w 14]" in total and then semantics of the word "white" in both Chinese and Thai are compared, the same and different meanings of "white(bai)" in Chinese and "white[kha:w 14]in Thai" are obtained, the common and different meanings of Chinese and Thai basic color words are analyzed with color emotion. In the third chapter, the author takes the Thai color words "red"(in Thai is[dae:?33]23)as the research object, extracts and establishes the corpus of "[dae:?33]" from the modern Thai corpus, and obtains the distribution of the meaning of "[dae:?33]" in modern Thai language. Moreover, according to the existing meaning in the emperor of Thailand,"red in Thai" has "baby" with one meaning of "[dae:?33]" and then semantics of the word "red" in both Chinese and Thai are compared, the same and different meanings of "red(hong)in Chinese" and "red"[dae:?33]" in Thai" are obtained, the similar and different meanings of Chinese and Thai basic color words are analyzed with color emotion. In the fourth chapter, the author takes the Thai color words "yellow"(in Thai is[lue:?14]3 4)as the research object, extracts and establishes the corpus of "[lue:?14]"from the modern Thai corpus, and obtains the distribution of the meaning of "[lue:?14]"in modern Thai language. Also, according to the existing meaning in the emperor of Thailand,"yellow in Thai" has "It refers to Buddhist monks wearing partial shirts",“The virtue after death","Refers to things that are old","Close to death of leaves or trees" with four meanings of "[lue:?14]" in total and then semantics of the word"yellow" in both Chinese and Thai are compared, the same and different meanings of"yellow(huang)in Chinese"and "yellow[lue:?14]" in Thai are obtained, the common and different meanings of Chinese and Thai basic color words are analyzed with color emotion. In the fifth chapter, the author takes the Thai color words "green"(in Thai is[khiaw 14]15)as the research object, extracts and establishes the corpus of "[khiaw 14]" from the modern Thai corpus, and obtains the distribution of the meaning of"[khiaw 14]" in modern Thai language.Furthermore, according to the existing meaning in the emperor of Thailand,"green in Thai" has "Convenience","The virtue after death","Relating to the nature world" with three meanings of "[khiaw 14]" in total and then semantics the word "green" in both Chinese and Thai are compared, the similar and different meanings of "green(1v)in Chinese" and "green[khiaw 14]in Thai" are obtained, the common and different meanings of Chinese and Thai basic color words are analyzed with color emotion. The sixth chapter, based on the analysis of the common and different meanings of the five basic color words including black, white, red, yellow and green in both Chinese and Thai, this study classifies them into A-G meaning areas. Moreover,in the conclusion part, the meanings of the five basic color words are compared and analyzed.According to the study,it is found that semantics of the basic color words in Chinese and Thai can be divided into three categories.First, the semantics of basic color words that are similar.Second, the semantics of basic color words that are different which are influenced by culture.Third, the semantics of basic color words that are different which are not influenced by culture. However, the meanings in all categories mentioned above do not include the color terms that are used for describing color of things.
