A Contrastive Study Of Color Terms Between Japanese And Korean

According to the differences of the location, custom, history background, and etc., Japan and Korea have each unique color cultures. And the color's expression ways both in Japanese and in Korean are influenced by the distinct culture.This paper is compares the color words between Japanese and Korean with the knowledge of morphology and semantic. It is more focus on the structure feature and meanings of derived color adjective. And it has stated that the difference of their sturucture and meaning.This paper is consist of 5 parts. Firstly, introduction part, it has stated the purpose, background and methodology of this research. Secondly, introduced the basic color adjective and derived color adjective both in Japanese and in Korean. Thirdly, discussed and compared the structure feature of derived color adjective words which has collected by the author. Fourthly, discuss and compare the basic and symbolic meaning of derived color adjective words by semantic knowledge. At last, conclusion.In this paper, the author has collected and discussed 10 derived color adjective in Japanese and 71 derived color adjective in Korean. As a result, not only the quantity of derived color adjective in Korean is more than in Japanese, but also the various in Korean is more richer than in Japanese. The author has aslo summarized that the distinct structure feature is caused by the addition of affixes and the replacement of rhymes. For a single derived color adjective word, the meanings in Japanese is more variously than in korean. Therefore, the author emphasis that the distinct derived color adjective feature in Japanese and in Korean is caused by the history background and culture.
