Comparative Study Of Affective Priming Between Music And Words

In daily study and work,the human brain is stimulated by a variety of complex or simple information.No matter when and where,these information are priming different emotions.Under the influence of different emotions,human cognition and judgment will fluctuate accordingly,which is an interesting cycle.Since emotions have a significant influence on cognition,they can be used as a means to obtain the desired cognitive effect,where emotion priming is an important part.Therefore,a comparative study on the intensity of the effect of emotional priming between different materials can provide people with useful suggestions on the choice of emotion priming stimuli;it has far-reaching significance to help people use emotion to improve cognitive efficiency in various fields.The priming of various emotions is achieved through stimulation,therefore,the effect of emotion priming varies depending on the stimulus.The emotion priming paradigm can be traced back to the classic emotion priming paradigm of Fazio et al.Experiments show that when the starting stimulus and target stimulus have different emotional colors,the experimental group's response time to the target stimulus' s emotional titer evaluation will be much longer than the control group,and this is the emotional priming effect.In the field of psychological research now,emotional priming is divided into subliminal emotional priming and supra-threshold emotional priming.Supra-threshold emotional priming means that emotions can be perceived consciously.Conversely,sub-threshold emotional priming is also known as unconscious emotional priming,where,since the priming stimulus presents for a very short time,emotions cannot be consciously perceived.A large number of studies led by Murphy and Zajonc have proved that the influence of unconsciously primed emotions on cognitive judgment is much higher than that of consciously primed emotions,proving the great research value of subliminal emotional priming.In the field of psychology,research on the existence,induction,and paradigm of sub-threshold emotional priming effects has matured;and in the study of the comparison of priming effects,there have been a lot of discussions on the comparison of priming materials under the same channel,mainly visual,such as the comparison of words and pictures,the comparison of words and faces,and so on.Comparative studies of priming effects in different channels are rare.Understanding the intensity of the sub-threshold emotion priming effect in different channels will help us to deepen and enrich the existing theoretical foundation,and provide people with an effective way to induce emotions.In this study,using the contrast between the auditory and visual channels as well as music materials and word materials as stimuli to compare the strength of their respective sub-threshold emotional primingeffects.In this study,the two experiments are 2 * 3 experimental designs(two priming materials * three emotion types)respectively,using the emotional stroop paradigm and the subjective self-emotion rating scale as the measurement tools for emotion priming to analyze the data of six groups of subjects and draw experimental conclusions.In this way,a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the dual-channel subliminal emotional priming effects of word materials and music materials is made.The first experiment explored the effect of supra-threshold emotional prim of word materials and music materials,and a 2 * 3 experimental design between subjects.Among the three types of emotions:positive,negative and neutral,words and music were used as the starting stimulus materials to discuss whether the subjects' above-threshold emotional initiating effects were different in material and emotional.In the first experiment,72 college students were selected as the test sample,and they were randomly divided into three groups.Word materials were all from the modern Chinese emotional vocabulary system(CEWS).The choice of music materials stems from the FMRI study on the awakening emotions of Western classical music by Mitterschifftha1 er and others,and selects the music with a strong positive awakening:Mozart's "Allegro-A little night music";then selects the negative emotions Music with a strong awakening:Bruch's "Kol Nidrei,Op.47;" Chopin Etude "as an excerpt of neutral music.Before the formal experiment,60 students who had not conducted the formal experiment conducted a preliminary evaluation and screening of the music and vocabulary materials,and confirmed 60 words with high emotional arousal,which were divided into three levels: positive,negative and neutral,and The three songs are positive,negative and neutral audio materials.According to the data results of the pre-experiment,the awakening degree and potency of the screening materials meet the standards of the formal experiment.The independent variables of the formal experiment are the three emotional types of musical material and word material,and the dependent variable is the result of the self-emotion assessment of the subjects.The experimental procedure is to present the words and music of three types of emotions,which are divided into affirmative,negative and neutral,and then let the subjects self-evaluate these materials within a specified time.Experiment 2 explores the subliminal priming effect of music materials and word materials,and a 2 *3 experimental design between subjects.The experiment also discusses whether words,music are the starting stimulus materials under the three types of emotions: positive,negative and neutral.The subliminal emotional activation effect of the subjects is whether there is a difference in material and emotional.In the second experiment,72 college students were selected as the test sample,and they were randomly classified into three groups on average.The procedures of the pre-experiment and the selection of experimental materials were the same as those in the former experiment.The experimental procedure is distinct from the experimental one.The independent variables of the formal experiment are the three emotional types ofmusical material and word material.The dependent variable is the response time and correctness consequence of the Stroop paradigm of the subject.To obtain more pure unconscious part of the experiment,it is presented by the sandwich masking method: there are two visual and audio arithmetic tasks as front and back masking stimuli for words and music.Subsequently,the reaction window technique was utilized to force the subjects to complete the Stroop task within the prescribed time.The experimental results found that at the sub-threshold level,the emotional priming effects of music and word materials are basically the same,and there is no good or bad between them.But the priming effect of positive emotions is far greater than negative and neutral,and there is no interaction between materials.However,at the level of the supra-threshold,the results of the self-emotion evaluation of the subjects showed that the effect of emotional priming of music materials is far greater than that of words,and the degree of induction of negative emotions is stronger than positive and neutral.
