With the acceleration process of China’s modernization and international trade as well as advancement of Globalization,the extension of transnational technology has become a major trend.In the process of transnational technology extension,the translation of technical texts,as the carrier of scientific communication,plays an indispensable role.However,most of the current translation techniques are rather rigid and inflexible,which is not conducive to readers’ reading and understanding,especially in the field of automotive technology translation.Liuzhou is one of the three automotive production bases in China.With the implementation of the "Going Global" strategy of its automobile enterprises there exists many problems in the process of translating automobile technical texts into English.Therefore,it is of positive importance for the study of the strategies in the field of C-E translation of automotive technology so as to improve the readability of technical translation texts.According to functional equivalence theory,the functional equivalence is that the target readers’ response to the translation is basically the same as that of the original reader.The requirement of the functional equivalence principle is to maintain a certain degree of consistency between the relationship of the target language reader and the information conveyed in the text,and between the recipient of the source language and the information conveyed in the text.The text of engineering and technology is a special subject that states the objective facts.The translation practice guided by the functional equivalence theory can help the translator find a better way to deal with the text of the original language and make the target Chinese more close to the original text.In the Report of C-E translation of the XXX Dump Truck Maintenance Manual,it is focused the translation of vocabulary and long sentences,including the translation of professional vocabulary and the translation of ordinary vocabulary in the professional field,and the theory and specific strategies of impersonal sentences and long sentences.The report consists of five parts.The first part is the task description,including introduction and significance about the task;the second part is general description of the translation task,containing pre-translation preparation,translation procedures and proof reading.The third part is the introduction of functional equivalence theory,and introduces the basic concept,development stage and principles of the theory of functional equivalence;The fourth part is difficult points and focuses;The fifth part is case study,using functional equivalence theory to analyze the translation methods and strategies in automotive technology texts;The sixth part is the last part,summarizing the content of the paper and putting forward to some suggestions.All in all,this C-E translation practice is a meaningful attempt to automotive technology translation.
