With the development of science and technology,China's medical and health undertakings have also made great progress.The research on aphasia and language disorders,however,needs to be strengthened.The mechanism of language disorders involves cognitive psychology,cultural psychology and linguistics.The incidence of language disorders in Chinese is lower than that in English.Since 1970 s,language disorders have been paid increasing attention in western countries.However,even up to now the public awareness of language disorders in China still needs to be improved.The translation materials used in this translation report are from the book Aphasia and Other Acquired Neurogenic Language Disorders.This book mainly introduces the etiology,treatment and evaluation of aphasia and other language disorders,and proposes many feasible and diversified treatment options.Therefore,translating this book may provide reference for domestic scholars and medical experts who study aphasia,and it may also assist aphasia patients and their families to understand,treat and overcome aphasia.This report is based on the translation practice in Chapters 17 and 18 of that book and discusses the guiding significance of translation shifts theory.Combined with specific cases,the author analyzes and expounds that proper shifts should be carried out in the process of English-Chinese translation,mainly from the perspective of level shift and shift of category,so as to improve the readability of the translation.
