After the promulgation of the Senior High School English Curriculum Standard(2017),core competencies as the specific goal of English curriculum,have been continuously concerned by the educational circles.Thinking dispositions as a part of the core competencies,can reflect the characteristics and level of students' mental development,and the cultivation of students' thinking dispositions has become a key research issue in high school English teaching.Based on Arthur Lewis and David Smith's Theory of Defining Higher Order Thinking,Bloom's Taxonomy of Educational Objectives to Foreign Language and Wang Qiang's View on English Learning Activities theory,this study focuses on the attitude and cognition of teachers and students towards the cultivation of thinking dispositions,the methods of cultivation of thinking dispositions,and the difficulties and problems of cultivation of thinking dispositions.63 senior high school English teachers and 252 senior high students from 4 schools in Yantai,Shandong Province participated in this research.The data of this study came from the following three aspects: A questionnaire about teachers' attitude and cognition towards the cultivation of thinking dispositions in English teaching,a questionnaire about the methods used in English teaching and a questionnaire about students' attitude and cognition towards the cultivation of thinking dispositions in English learning.After collecting all the questionnaires,SPSS was used to analyze the data.The main findings of the study are: teachers and students have certain cognition of thinking tendency(according to the results of the questionnaire,the mean value of teachers' cognition is 4.18,that is,teachers' cognition of thinking dispositions can reach 83.5%,and the mean value of students' cognition is 3.49,that is,students' cognition of thinking dispositions can reach 69.7%),teachers are more clear about the importance and significance of the cultivation of thinking dispositions inEnglish teaching,but there are still some problems and difficulties in teaching,for example,the cultivation methods of thinking dispositions are not rich enough,and the measurement and evaluation of thinking dispositions can not be quantified.According to the results of the questionnaire,this study summarizes the methods of thinking dispositions and puts forward suggestions for teachers,students and evaluation system.This research has a certain guiding significance for teachers and students in the process of training thinking dispositions,which can arouse teachers' attention to the cultivation of it,deepen teachers' cognition of the cultivation of thinking dispositions,and effectively use thinking training to cultivate students' thinking ability and improve thinking dispositions.
